Why is being focused so important?

Learning how to stay focused is crucial to your productivity. Being focused on a certain thing for a period of time allows you to do a better quality of work, allows your work to get done faster, and your creativity will flow more easily. According to IRMP Consulting, focus is so important because it is the gateway to all thinking: perception, memory, learning, reasoning, problem solving, and decision making. Without good focus, all aspects of your ability to think can suffer!

What causes your focus to suffer?

Many people suffer from not being able to maintain their focus or attention to details. There are a multitude of reasons why this could occur, but some of them include:

  • Being hungry
  • Feeling worried or anxious
  • Being stressed out
  • Not getting enough sleep
  • Being distracted by something in your environment

Ten Tips to Stay Focused

We know how important it is to maintain your focus in school, work, or life! So, we’ve listed our top ten favorite tips to help you focus more effectively.

  1. Set a SMART goal

If your lack of focus stems from often feeling overwhelmed by complex tasks, try using SMART goals as your basis for organizing your goals. Utilizing SMART goals gives us a sound approach to managing and preparing our time. SMART stands for Specific (What do I want to achieve?), Measurable (How much time is needed to succeed?), Attainable (How can I do this?), Realistic (Am I willing and able to do this?), and Timely (What is my target date? What should I achieve along the way?).

  1. Take short breaks

Taking breaks can allow you to be even more productive! According to The Wellbeing Thesis, research has found that taking breaks can be very beneficial for you and your work. Micro-breaks, lunchtime breaks, and longer breaks, have all been shown to have a positive relationship with wellbeing and productivity. Taking regular, short breaks can boost your overall performance.

  1. Track your time

Tracking your time is one of the simplest ways to monitor your attention to detail. You might often be working all day, but still find it seems like you’ve gotten nothing done. This is where tracking your time helps! Tracking your time allows you to figure out what steals your time the most, helps find bad habits you might have not been aware of, and actually helps you to stop multitasking!

  1. Get sufficient sleep

Getting sufficient sleep is proven to help aid in productivity. Sleep plays a crucial role in learning and memory. If you aren’t getting enough regular sleep, it’s harder to focus and take in new information. Relaxium Sleep is a safe and non-prescription supplement that can aid in your sleeplessness. Count on Relaxium Sleep to help you fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and wake up feeling refreshed!

  1. Exercise often

Moving your body often aids in focus and concentration. Regular exercise is proven to release chemicals that are key for memory, concentration, and mental sharpness. According to Better Up, other research found that exercise can boost the brain’s dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin levels and all these will affect focus and attention. Individuals who do some form of exercise are more likely to perform better on cognitive tasks.

  1. Eliminate distractions

If you’re always feeling overloaded with work, how can you possibly be your most focused? It’s important to eliminate distractions if you can. This is done best by supplying a quiet work environment, with your phone silenced to avoid possible distractions. Try to concentrate solely on what you’re working on, so your focus is only going to what’s important.

  1. Take a break from social media

Although social media is a great tool, it is often a distraction. You’ll be more productive and fulfilled if you take regular breaks from social media. This may be hard at first, but overtime you’ll find it very helpful – and you might even start to enjoy your time better social media free!

  1. Fuel your body

Being hungry and lacking nutrients are one of the main reasons your focus may suffer. It’s important to fuel your body and mind with heart healthy vegetables and fruits to maintain a consistent focus.

  1. Make a to-do list

In order to stay on track with your tasks, make a daily to-do list. This way, you can ensure your focus is going to the most important items that need to be done. This will also help keep you organized, and allow you to feel less stressed with school or work.

  1. Focus on similar tasks (don’t multitask)

Although you may feel more productive doing multiple tasks at once, it’s actually taking away from your focus. Our brains are just not built to handle multitasking! Multitasking hampers your ability to concentrate and comprises your overall work activity.
